Reasonable Steps Standard: Platforms must take actions that are just and appropriate in the circumstances to enforce restrictions. They will be in breach if they show unreasonable failure to prevent underage access, but the legislation acknowledges that no system will be perfect.

Data Protection: Platforms cannot use or disclose personal information collected for age verification purposes for any other purpose without consent, addressing privacy concerns about expanded data collection.

Age Verification Technologies Under Development

The Australian government has not mandated specific age verification technologies, leaving platforms to determine their own approaches. Several technologies are under consideration:
